It has a beach of the same name〔(Natural Landmarks ) Qatar Tourism〕 and various archaeological sites including the ruins of a fort. Since the 21st century it has functioned as a tourist site.〔 Potsherds of Ubaid, Barbar and Seleucid characteristics and a cairn field consisting of 100 burial mounds dating were discovered in Ras Abrouq during a British exploration in the early 1970s. Fish processing activities and date milling took place in the area. The relatively large number of cairns suggest a sizable sea-faring community prevailed in the area. Ras Abrouq housed a fishing station which foreign vessels used to dry fish in 140 BC. A number of stone structures and large quantities of fish bones were recovered from the site.〔 Facilities for "debis" (date syrup) production are believed to have been at the site.〔(Zekreet Fort ) Explore Qatar〕 The area accommodated the first harbor in Qatar to be used by oil companies to unload their equipment. ==Location== Ras Abrouq is located near the city of Dukhan.
